Psychedelic Assisted Therapy
Psychedelic-assisted therapy combines the transformative potential of carefully administered psychedelic medicines with professional psychological support. Rooted in both ancient healing traditions and modern clinical research, this approach offers a unique pathway to address trauma, depression, and other deeply rooted emotional challenges.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, psychedelic-assisted therapy allows individuals to access deeper layers of consciousness and emotion, often bringing powerful insights, emotional release, and a renewed sense of connection to self and others.

Origins of psychedelic therapy
Psychedelic substances have been used in healing rituals for thousands of years across cultures in every corner of the world. In the 1950s and 60s, pioneering psychiatrists and psychologists began formally researching psychedelics like LSD and psilocybin for mental health treatment, demonstrating promising results for depression, anxiety, and addiction.
Modern research, including large-scale studies from institutions like Johns Hopkins University, Imperial College London, and the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), has reignited scientific interest in these therapies. In 2023, the FDA granted breakthrough therapy designation to several psychedelic-assisted treatments for depression and PTSD, highlighting their potential to transform mental health care.
What does a psychedelic-assisted therapy program involve?
At Mirabilis Health, our psychedelic-assisted therapy program offers a structured, group-based journey combining therapeutic preparation, guided medicine sessions, and post-session integration. Participants engage in mindfulness and emotional readiness practices before their medicine sessions, experience the journey in a safe, supportive environment with medical and therapeutic staff present, and take part in integration circles to reflect, process, and apply their insights.
This approach fosters deep personal growth, emotional healing, and a strong sense of connection with others on the same path.
What does it actually feel like?
Psychedelic experiences vary widely, but many people describe them as deeply emotional, insightful, and profoundly connecting. You may encounter long-suppressed feelings, gain new perspectives on personal struggles, or experience a powerful sense of interconnectedness and meaning.
While not always easy—difficult emotions can surface—the presence of a skilled therapeutic team ensures that you remain safe and supported throughout the journey.
What can psychedelic-assisted therapy help with?
Research has shown that psychedelic-assisted therapy can offer significant benefits for:
treatment-resistant depression
PTSD and trauma-related difficulties
anxiety, including existential and end-of-life anxiety
addictions and compulsive behaviours
grief and complicated loss
chronic stress and burnout
low self-worth and feelings of disconnection
Clinical trials such as those led by Johns Hopkins (Griffiths et al., 2016) and MAPS phase 3 trials for MDMA-assisted therapy (Mitchell et al., 2021) have demonstrated remarkable improvements, even in cases where traditional treatments have failed.

If you feel that conventional therapies haven’t fully addressed your emotional pain or if you’re seeking a more transformative approach to healing, psychedelic-assisted therapy may be worth exploring.

FAQ’s
Is ketamine a psychedelic?
Ketamine is technically classified as a dissociative anaesthetic, but it can produce powerful psychedelic-like experiences. While it works differently from classical psychedelics like psilocybin or LSD, it can create altered states of consciousness, emotional breakthroughs, and shifts in perception that support psychological healing.
In therapy, ketamine is often included under the term psychedelic-assisted therapies because of these effects, but it’s helpful to understand that it belongs to a distinct category of medicines with its own unique therapeutic properties.
Does Ketamine make you hallucinate?
Ketamine can produce changes in perception, such as visual imagery, altered sense of space and time, and feelings of detachment from the body or self. These experiences are sometimes described as dreamlike or surreal but are not typically full hallucinations in the way some other psychedelics produce. The intensity of these effects depends on the dose and setting. In a therapeutic context, the experience is carefully managed to support emotional insight and healing.
Do you offer psilocybin therapy?
We do not currently offer psilocybin therapy due to it’s legal restrictions.
In 2026 we will be running a group psilocybin retreat in the Netherlands. Sign up to our newsletter to receive updates.
